Price: £45 for the travel set
Hi Beauties, Happy Easter! Sorry about the short hiatus, I have no excuse other than that Hong Kong was a blast! I’m back in surprisingly sunny London, armed with yet another review!
You have heard me rave about it again, and again. Yes, this is The Organic Pharmacy Travel Kit, included are 5 of their best sellers, just the right size to make you fall in love with this luxurious London based organic brand.
The kit is beautifully presented, and would make an impressive gift. Included are the Carrot Butter Cleanser (10ml), Herbal Toner (10ml), Antioxidant Face Gel (5 ml), Antioxidant Face Firming Serum (5ml), Double Rose Rejuvenating Face Cream (10ml), and a full size Organic Muslin Cloth.
Although, the products are small in size, a little goes a long way. They have actually lasted me for well more than a month!
The best thing about this Travel Kit is that it is sold as a system. I find that the star of the show is not in an individual product, but in the synergy of all the products.
I did experience a period of “skin-plurging” when I first switched over to the brand. I broke out mildly for around a week before the spots gave way to a healthy glow, and the little comedones on my forehead have all but fled!
Carrot Butter Cleanser:
Overall Performance: 7/10
The Carrot Butter Cleanser is a balm cleanser (photo), and is spread across the face to remove makeup, dirt and pollution. It is also safe to use on the eye area. The cleanser is a buttery texture that melts on contact. It is removed using the accompanied Organic Muslin Cloth soaked in lake warm water.
In terms of results, the Carrot Butter Cleanser is as good a cleanser as it claims. It not only cleanses the skin well, but also leaves the skin smooth, moisturised, and glowing. It does not leave any oily residual after cleansing.
However, personally, I do not like the scent of this cleanser at all. The name is misleading, as it doesn’t smell like carrots (which makes my inner rabbit very sad). It smells to me like a mixture of too many essential oils. I am usually not particular about scents, but for this, I have to hold my nose every time I use it.
Also, if you like massaging you face when cleansing (as I do), this cleanser doesn’t spread well. It feels greasy instead of oily, so you need to tug your skin a lot harder for a good spread.
The Carrot Butter is infused with moisturising ingredients such as Shea Butter and Cocoa Butter. It also includes antioxidant such as Carrot and Calendula to prevent the skin from free radicals. Rosemary and Lavender also helps to decongest the skin with its gentle cleansing properties.
Would I repurchase this product? For the sake of my nose – no.
Overall Performance: 7.5/10
The Herbal Toner is spritzed over the face after cleansing. The main function of the Herbal Toner is a pre-moisturiser. Whilst the skin is damp, the Antioxidant Gel and Antioxidant Serum can be applied to maximise absorption and moisture retention. It can also be used over makeup throughout the day to freshen up.
With its subtle, yet pleasant herbal scent, the Herbal Toner does a great job in awakening and tightening the skin. Furthermore, it is also hydrating, making the skin feel balanced and comfortable after each use.
However, in comparison to toners from other brands, I do not feel that the Herbal Toner performs starkly better. I find that the novelty of this toner is in its synergy with the Antioxidant Gel and Serum. I have tried replacing this step with Pai’s Organge Blossom Toner or just plain Aloe Vera spritz, and have still yield great results.
This toner is best for normal or combination skin. It includes an infusion of Witch Hazel, Aloe Vera, and a blend of organic herbs, which helps to minimise pores and lift and tone the skin.
Would I repurchase this product? No. There are cheaper alternatives that can provide similar benefits.
Antioxidant Face Gel & Antioxidant Face Firming Serum:
Overall Performance: 9/10
For those searching for an all natural alternative for Vitamin C serums, look this way! The Antioxidant Face Gel together with the Antioxidant Serum, are like liquid diamond and gold for the the face.
I have been a fan of Vitamin C for a long time – even before converting to all natural products. Vit C has amazing anti-ageing benefits as it can increase collagen production and, hence, improve skin texture and elasticity. Vit C can also heal wounds and reduce hyperpigmentation, so it is especially great for acne prone skin. As an antioxidant, Vit C also provides photoprotection from the sun.
For those new to using Vitamin C on the skin – let me tell you, it is no easy task to find a good one. Some Vit C serums can make my skin photosensitive. Long term use in the daytime will make my face darker than the rest of my body. Furthermore, Vit C serums that are orange in colour can tint my skin like a bad fake tan. Worst yet, is that some also dye my glasses at the bridge, giving it a gross, orangey appearance. With The Organic Pharmacy Antioxidant Gel and Serum, I’ve experienced none of these mishaps. The ingredients are also completely natural, what more can a girl ask for?
The Antioxidant Gel has a gel-like consistency, and smells very strongly of lemon. It contains marine algae, sea minerals, collagen boosting herbs and vitamins, which work together to minimise pores, tone, and lift the skin. I find that using the Antioxidant Gel with the Serum helps deliver the latter straight to the deep levels of the skin. This maximises the benefits of the serum tenfolds.
Nicknamed the “instant face lift oil”, the Antioxidant Serum is an oil that has a subtle scent of orange zest. The Serum boasts a high potency of Rose Hip, Grapeseend, DMAE, Alphalipoic acid, as well as high levels of Vitamin C and E. Together, the ingredients are 50 times more effective than Rose Hip alone. For those looking for a natural alternative for the famous Skinceuticals C E Ferulic, The Organic Pharmacy Antioxidant Serum is here to answer your prayers.
Whilst using the Antioxidant Gel and Serum, my face feels healthy and translucent with minimal breakouts. They even got rid of the tiny breakouts around my mouth, which, hitherto, never went away. Furthermore, my skin is well toned, and I definitely see great improvements in my skin texture.
I use the duo only in the morning. After misting my face with the toner, I first put on the Gel when my face is damp, followed by the Serum. For those dry skin beauties out there, you must learn to apply your products fast!
In terms of ingredients, the Gel and Serum do contain Linalool and Limonene, which are natural components of citric essential oils. Upon exposure to sunlight these ingredients may oxidise to become skin irritants. If you are prone to dermatitis, I would definitely recommend that you try out a sample before purchasing the full size.
Would I repurchase these product? Absolutely!
Double Rose Rejuvenating Face Cream:
Overall Performance: 8.5/10
The Double Rose Rejuvenating Face Cream is light, yet extremely nourishing, which makes it a wonderful day cream for dry skin. It is a thick gel that is non-sticky and smooth (photo). It smells of a lovely mixture of floral scents, most starkly of Rose Hip.
The cream is non-greasy on the skin, but still manages to give a beautiful glow that lasts and lasts. Better yet is that it is surprisingly hydrating, and leaves my face feeling well moisturised even at the end of the day. I have tried and tested it under the harsh air-conditioning of a long-haul flight (here), and have experienced no dry patches!
In terms of results, I could feel a slight lifting effect whenever I put this on. My skin seems to love soaking it up too! Even though this cream is formulated for reducing capillaries, I actually don’t find that it helped with my capillaries at all. Nonetheless, this is another win product for me because it excelled in every other claims.
The Double Rose Rejuvenating Face Cream is blended with Rose Water and Rose Hip. Other nourishing ingredients include Jojoba, Ginger and Aloe. Gotu Kola and Marigold are also added to promote cell regeneration.
Would I repurchase this product? Yes!
One downside of the travel kit is that the packaging isn’t the best. The airless pumps are useless, and whoever thought of the design should be sued. It’s a battle of wits (or just blunt force) ever time I try to get the pump to simply dispose some product.
In regards to the performance and results, I couldn’t be happier with the selection of products. And I’m so glad to have discovered a new favourite organic brand!
