Gielly Green Haircare Review | One for the Oily Scalps

A while back, I purchased the LoveLula Hair Rehab Selection, and with it came two classic shampoo and conditioner minis from Gielly Green.

Fred Gielly and Shai Greenberg are the men behind the brand, which started off as a boutique hair salon in London Marlebone. Gielly Green products promises no parabens, SLS, or synthetic fragrances. All natural ingredients used, such as minerals and oils, are processed naturally and manufactured in the UK.

The Pros:

I didn’t like the duo too much at first, I felt that they were too stripping for my hair. When I was about to abandon boat, I decided that washing my hair everyday was too much, so I gave it another go. Second day past, then the third day… I was so shocked to find my hair still light and non-oily, even with minimal use of dry shampoo.

Let me tell you – I have the oiliest hair in the world. I have searched high and low, but still hadn’t found a brand that could give me second day hair I’m happy to leave the house with. Gielly Green is the first.

Aside from the longevity of between-washes, The Gielly Green shampoo also smells pleasantly of grapefruit, which makes it such as treat to use in the shower. The shampoo gives a very good cleanse, leaving the hair feeling soft and fresh for days.

The Classic Shampoo and Conditioner both contain hair-loving ingredients such as Argan oil and Aloe Leaf Juice to prevent fizziness and control moisture. Other great ingredients include Neem, which helps lock in moistures, leaving the hair shiny and strong. Dead Sea Minerals are used for skin regeneration and to stimulate blood circulation to the scalp.

The Cons:

I find the conditioner not moisturising enough. Whilst the roots of my hair are clean and soft, the hair ends are often in tangles and hard to manage. This conditioner is definitely for those with shorter hair.

The biggest downside of Gielly Green is that, although this is an all natural brand, there are still some questionable ingredients in their products. Unfortunately, for those truly green addicts, this product might not be for you.

Gielly Green uses Methylchloroisothiazolinone and Methylisothiazolinone as a preservative (both a score of 5 on EWG). Other ingredients to watch out for are Limonene (score 6) and Linalool (score 5), which are actually natural components for citric essential oils, but could potentially be a skin irritant (especially for people prone to dermatitis). The conditioner also contains Phenoxyaethanol.

Would I repurchase this product? I have mixed feelings about this product as I do like the shampoo. But due to some of the non-natural ingredients, I think I will pass on this brand.
